Hey all! I am holding a FOOD MOOD and WEIGHT LOSS class on Sunday February 17th from 5-7pm in my home (River Falls, WI). The class is only $25. Pre-registration is required. For those of you who are out of the area there will be a webinar option. With the webinar option you get to see the slides and hear the audio just like if you were in the room!
Please email Craig at craigmaria@gmail.com for more details.
This class is sure to SHOCK you! Find out exactly what certain ingredients do to our cells. What we put in our mouth directly effects our our moods, depression, anxiety, MS, energy, and memory. Participants will feel empowered to make permanent lifestyle changes. Find out which foods optimize our production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. You will also discover the biochemical connection to cravings and how over the counter medications and poor intestinal health can lower your mood. One of the most interesting connections is between cravings and our biochemical response! The more sugar we eat, the more we crave it. If you start your day off with cereal and skim milk, you aren't going to be able to walk by the candy jar in your office at 2pm! Check out these to breakfast comparisons:
Option 1: 1 cup SMART START Cereal (1 cup skim milk and banana)
472 calories, 105 carbs, 4g fiber = 25.25 tsp of sugar in blood (IF you didn’t add any sugar!)
Option 2: 2 eggs, with 2 cups of mushrooms, peppers, onions
190 calories, 9 carbs, 3 fiber = 1.5 tsp of sugar in blood
Option 3: My homemade donut made with coconut flour
217 calories, 7.4 carbs, 4.6g fiber = 0.7 tsp of sugar in blood!
To eat is a necessity; to eat ‘healthy’ is an art.
Maria, what are your thoughts on nutritional ketosis; getting sufficient protein & fat combined? Yes the donuts have low sugar, but to eat 217 calories and maybe have only 5 gr or protein or so would not be enough.
ReplyDeleteI am slender but can not eat the amount of calories a day when all added up that I expect you are able to enjoy.
You are much more active, which I think is great, but if one is not able to burn up so much with activity as you do, (I for one have to be more careful on amount of food) even considering the quality that many of us eat.
Perhaps, metabolism difference in people, damaged metabolism from years of sugar addiction and age factors in. Do you address this subject in length in any of your books? Is it possible to increase ones metabolism as they get older without super amounts of exercise? I eat low carb, striving daily for the moderate protein, high fat for nutritional ketosis, but still have to be careful of quantity and getting sufficient protein (i.e. .6 gr/lean mass). Do these questions make sense?
Perhaps you could cover this in a blog? I also wonder at times if you will have to make adjustments as you age? :(
Thank you for any insights you might be able to share,
Philis
Hi, Yes, everyone is different and it also depends a lot on what your goals are (weight loss, maintain). I address much of this in my book Secrets to a Healthy Metabolism.

It is all about how a High fat, moderate protein, low carb diet can positively influence our health. :)
While I would love to win the choco perfection give away, I have yet to try your recipes. I hope this doesn't disqualify me. I know I will like any one of your recipes and I am eager to make the flax seed waffles. Thank you, Linda D.
ReplyDeleteThe cake pops look adorable! Must order that cookbook. I would LOVE to win the choco perfection bars. I have not yet tried any "sweet" recipes-I'm currently collecting all the necessary ingredients; however I made Craig's pizza crust! It was great!!!! I am so excited.
ReplyDeleteI have been grain and sugar free for 12 days now-I am a little worried because I haven't seen the scale change and I do have 25-30lbs to lose. I went through chemo 9 years ago and it wreaked havoc on my metabolism. Perhaps if I read your metabolism book I can get a better understanding as to what specifically I can do to reverse the damage. I desperately want to be trim and healthy. I don't have any cravings at all...except for coconut milk-I'm afraid I might like that a bit too much.
Yes, my metabolism book would be a great place to start. Thanks! :)
DeleteI have a Swerve question - What are these "natural flavors" they include in the ingredients? How do we know they are safe... Was about to order a bunch but am slightly concerned by this.
ReplyDeleteHi, I have discussed this with them and it isn't anything to be worried about. I can't say what it is (it is their trade secret) but it isn't harmful. :)
DeleteMaria, I notice that you always recommend the "Healthy Metabolism" book over the weight loss and cravings book. Can you explain why? Is there a lot of overlap between the two?
ReplyDeleteMy Metabolism books covers everything about our metabolisms where the Mood book takes a deeper dive into the relation of our hormones to our metabolism, health and moods. The Metabolism book just touches on this so there isn't much overlap. :)
DeleteIs there still room to sign up for your class on Feb. 17?
ReplyDeleteYes, there is still room. Just email Craig and tell him if you are going to be in person or on the webinar. Thanks! Craigmaria@gmail.com.
